  • Governor Walker Highlights State Efforts to Improve Highway Safety

    Green Bay – Governor Scott Walker provided a keynote address today at the 42nd Annual Governor’s Conference on Highway Safety.

    The theme for the 2016 Governor’s Conference on Highway Safety is “Driving Fatalities Toward Zero,” which  demonstrates the state’s commitment to highway safety and encourages citizens to work together to reach the goal of zero preventable deaths on Wisconsin roads. During his remarks, Governor Walker highlighted measures that have helped decrease preventable fatalities across Wisconsin.

    “Our theme for this year’s Conference on Highway Safety emphasizes our bottom line, which is getting the number of driving deaths in Wisconsin down to zero,” Governor Walker said. “To make this goal a reality, we must work together and ensure we’re doing everything we can to eliminate fatalities on the road. The conference today provides a forum for ideas on how we can strengthen safety measures moving forward.”

  • Governor Walker Speaks at Blinded Veterans Association 71st National Convention

    Milwaukee – Governor Scott Walker joined the Blinded Veterans Association this morning at their 71st National Convention in Milwaukee. The Blinded Veterans Association (BVA), with 8,500 members, including 153 in Wisconsin, is recognized as the exclusive voice for blinded veterans and their families nationwide.

    “Our men and women in uniform sacrifice every day to protect the freedom of our nation,” Governor Walker said. “The meaning of that sacrifice is known all too well by our veterans and their families. Today, we thank them for their courage, selflessness, and willingness to fight for our nation. We also recognize the Blinded Veterans Association for their leadership and advocacy for our blinded veterans.”

  • Governor Walker Highlights Efforts to Make College More Affordable

    Madison – Governor Scott Walker and Department of Financial Institutions (DFI) Secretary Lon Roberts are visiting Fox Valley Technical College in Appleton and Northcentral Technical College in Wausau today to highlight the state’s efforts to make college more affordable for Wisconsin students and families.

    “With two sons, one a recent graduate and one a college senior, Tonette and I know the importance of planning ahead for the cost of higher education,” Governor Walker said. “By providing greater access to financial planning resources, students and their families will be armed with the information to better plan for the future.”

  • Governor Walker Highlights $38 Million Reduction in Unemployment Insurance Tax for Wisconsin Companies

    Gilman – Governor Scott Walker joined company leaders and employees this afternoon at Gilman Cheese Corporation for a tour and to discuss the tax savings for Wisconsin employers as a direct result of the stable Unemployment Insurance (UI) fund.

    Employers covered under the UI program will experience an estimated $38 million reduction in their UI taxes for the year 2017, which marks the second consecutive tax year that employer UI taxes will decline. When combined with the $97 million reduction for tax year 2016, employers will see an estimated reduction of $135 million.

  • Governor Walker Highlights $38 Million Reduction in Unemployment Insurance Tax for Wisconsin Companies

    Kenosha – Governor Scott Walker toured Kenall Manufacturing this morning and discussed the tax savings for Wisconsin employers as a direct result of the stable Unemployment Insurance (UI) Trust Fund. 

    Employers covered under the UI program will experience an estimated $38 million reduction in their UI taxes for the year 2017, which marks the second consecutive tax year that employer UI taxes will decline. When combined with the $97 million reduction for tax year 2016, employers will see an estimated reduction of $135 million.

    “Kenall Manufacturing is a great example of a company dedicated to workforce development through their training programs,” said Governor Walker. “By reducing the unemployment insurance tax burden, Wisconsin businesses can focus on investing in their current employees with ongoing skills training and attracting new workers.”
